One of the most common lies we are told is that the attainment and mastery of excellent clinical skills will guarantee you have a long and successful career as a health professional and business owner.

Now – don’t get me wrong – I totally endorse the need for clinical excellence – however – in this day and age – clinical excellence is largely assumed by our clients and patients and not a real point of difference.
He only exception to this lie of “clinical excellence” is if you are a sole trading health professional, see all the clients yourself and have been in business for a very long time.
Your incredible clinical skills and slow word of mouth referrals will give you some measure of success – however there will be many problems with your business model.
These problems include – but are not limited to – your inability to earn income when you are away from the business , vulnerability to personal illness and disability, high rate of burnout, and the low value your business has when you come to sell it and move on.
I see a better business model being where the excellent clinician employs and trains a team of professionals that also deliver a great product to the clients.
This allows the smart business owner to leverage their time and energy in ways that allow more clients to be helped, more professionals to attain excellent standards of care and the owner to enjoy a greater level of business freedom and success.
Don’t let this lie hold you back.
Be clinically excellent but also expand your mind to the larger opportunities that are open to each and every one of us.
