Yet here was one vital secret all of the experts agreed up when it came to recruitment.
NEVER HIRE OUT OF NECESSITY
All summit experts agreed the most common hiring mistake is to hire a new team member because you are desperate to fill the position.
You are hiring them because you are stuck and don’t have any other options – rather then hiring them because they are theperfect fit for your practice.
DO NOT make this mistake.
Which is why I advise all of my private mentor clients to always be hiring.
Have job ads placed continually – even if you don’t have a position available at the time.
Stay in touch with past applicants to see where they are at and if you can help them in any way.
If you lecture to a group of student therapists or fellow professionals – always get their contact details and stay in touch so you have a database of possible future team members – just sitting there waiting for when you need to fill a position.
I once asked one of my mentors this common business question:
“When is it OK to hire someone who is not a perfect fit – especially when I am stuck and don’t have many applicants”.
His answer was a very strong – NEVER
He believed the damage the wrong person can do to your business is far worse than having no–one at all – until you find the right person.
