Is Team Training a Waste of Time? This Owner Thinks So – Do You?

At one of my recent Australian seminars we were discussing the importance of team training – of both admin and therapy staff – when one attendee made this comment:

What is the point of training my team anyway – I put so much effort into helping them be great team members – then they up and leave – and all my efforts are wasted“.

Now I must say – I hear this exact comment over and over again at my live events and conferences.

It can be incredibly frustrating to spend hour after hour training your team members to become better therapists and more efficient front desk team members – only to have them leave and move to another company.

It can make you feel like you are just spending your time training them just so they can be more profitable for their next employer.

Now whilst this staff turnover and perceived wasting of your valuable time – can appear frustrating – you have to look at the alternative.

One of my mentors often says how frustrating it can be to train team members only to have them eventually leave.

But he also talks about the alternative.


So there is really no option but to invest in team training.

We cannot be sure which team member is going to stay for the long term – so to decide NOT to do any team training – leaves you open the the possibility this untrained team member becomes a long term employee – and ultimately damages your business and brand by your failure to upskill them.

I believe team training is one of the most important roles a business owner has – and must be given the priority it deserves.

Team training is not only vital for your current tea members – but some of the smartest health business owners on the planet – use team training as a massive recruitment strategy – as I did in my health businesses.
